UK2.NET is UK's biggest host. We host more domains, websites and servers than anyone else in the UK. We have a powerful network infrastructure backed by solid software that monitor and maintain most tasks automatically. Our services are generally the cheapest no question about that, however we are not compromising on quality either. This page will briefly explain why we are considered as one of the most rock solid performers in the industry. Websites and domains are hosted on an industrial platform mainly using high powered Linux servers with various specifications. Servers are located in our secure data center and power is supplied by an advanced ups system including diesel generators. We have 4 physical links to 3 different backbones to ensure emergency supply of bandwidth. We exclusively use Cisco routers and only use Backbone providers that use Cisco powered networks. Linux is for grownups - NT is for kids We are the biggest host in the world using exclusively Linux for hosting. We do no longer provide any NT hosting facilities at all. It is our experience that Windows NT requires 2-3 times as expensive hardware, very high software costs, more support personal and still is not as fast and reliable as Linux. We generally advice against using NT for any commercial hosting facilities. The only Windows machine we host is for our own webcam. That's about all we trust it to do and only until we get some Linux drivers. You just cannot beat the performance and reliability of Linux and the open source software concept. Both servers mirror the EmailDiversion ^tm advanced settings and can deliver mail independent of each other. Server 2 handles primarily email (MX 0). If Server 2 is restarted or in the obscure event of being overloaded, Server 1 (MX 10) will kick in and take over EmailDiversion ^tm in real-time (no spooling) which ensures our lightning fast delivery of email. We are one of the only web hosts in the world that separate web server activities and email delivery on separate servers. All servers are fully backed up daily and tapes rotated several times a week. Please do not use providers that are use the same server with 2 IP numbers for both primary and secondary nameservers. It will mean total blackout if something goes wrong. Demand quality.

Location Our data center is located on Isle of Dogs, Docklands, London, UK. In the same building as companies like Concentric, Carrier1 and on the same floor as companies like Abovenet, INS, Level3 and many more. The data center is backed by Cliff Stanford (former demon) and is now a public company. Being in an Neutral Internet Colocation Facility (NICF) gives us absolute flexibility to buy bandwidth from different providers and remain completely independent. Power The data center is connected to a 2-Megawatt power supply that it more than enough power to light up Wembley Stadium ten times over. Backing that up are dedicated UPS systems plus two further diverse mains supplies with circuit breaker protection, and an on-site generator in the unlikely event of long-term power outages. Security The data center has a high-security system that includes 24 x 7 monitoring by on-site personnel, video camera surveillance and a security breach alarm. We use redundant power supplies for maximum security. Our connections to Concentric and Carrier1 is connected via ethernet cable. We do not use leased lines since we are connected straight on to the backbones. We are in other words protected from mad excavators digging up roads.

We use a Cisco 5505 with the latest line card that supports QoS (Quality of Service) and WRED (Weighted Random Early Detection) to ensure optimal performance and protection against runaway servers. We use redundant power supplies for maximum security. All ports are running 100mbit full duplex (200mbit).The switch is connected to a Cisco 7206VXR router via ISL encapsulation and a VLAN trunk.
	Cisco 2924XL switches 3.2 Gbps switching fabric 4MB RAM Power 70W Link to Cisco information We use 2924XL switches to concentrate the switch ports. These are fully managed switches that can be configured for individual needs. All connections to servers are running 100mbit full duplex (200mbit).
